Purpose/Course Description:
This course is designed to foster the development of students’ understanding of the American political system and how they will interact with that system throughout adulthood.  Through a variety of instructional methods, including individual work, small and large group projects, journaling, debate, simulations, and real-life application, the student will gain a broad base of knowledge about the federal system of government, political policies, politics, and governmental practices. Course study will emphasize core democratic values, the structure of American government, civic rights, duties and responsibilities, America’s relationship with other nations, as well as other relevant topics. This course is highly recommended for 9th and 10th grade students because it helps students prepare for the Social Studies High School MME test administered the spring of junior year.
